Former Commissioner Tang Ping-keung (Tang Sir) has taken up a new position as the Secretary for Security and left his beloved Force where he fully committed to his sworn duties over the past 34 years. Given the pressing schedule, he was unable to bid farewell to each and every colleague. Therefore, despite his hectic schedule, he returned to the Police Headquarters, a place full of memories, toil and humanity, to meet Force members and officially say goodbye through the event of “Goodbye! Tang Sir” on July 9. Over 400 officers from different Major Formations participated in the event.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner Siu Chak-yee thanked Tang Sir for his contributions to the Force and shared with officers how he had worked with Tang Sir in the past. In his speech, Tang Sir reminisced about his training life at the Police College and his police career. He firmly held the beliefs of “Putting in efforts regardless of reward” and “With faith, we go farther” to serve the Force all along.

The four colleagues who were injured in Operation TIDERIDER took the opportunity to express their gratitude to Tang Sir for his care and support on their road to recovery. Chairman of Junior Police Officers’ Association of the Hong Kong Police Force Lam Chi-wai also shared his heartfelt message to Tang Sir. He recalled that Tang Sir took over as the Commissioner of Police when Hong Kong was under critical circumstances to lead the Force to stop violence and curb disorder, which laid a solid foundation for Hong Kong to restore social stability.

During the event, Tang Sir chatted with officers, took photographs with them and said goodbye. Finally, officers cheered as Tang Sir, who was led by a bagpiper, left the Police Headquarters. Despite in a different position, Tang Sir will continue to work together with the Force to protect Hong Kong under the same blue sky and strive for creating a safer tomorrow for Hong Kong and safeguarding national security.
