The flag-raising ceremony for the 24th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) was held at the Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai on July 1. It was the first time for the Hong Kong Police Flag Party to adopt the Chinese-style drill and Chinese-style flag raising on the HKSAR Establishment Day to complement the Hong Kong-style drill performed by the contingents formed by five disciplined services. The ceremony demonstrated the spirit of “One Country, Two Systems” and fostered a sense of affinity with the motherland.

In order to ensure a high standard of performance at the ceremony, the Hong Kong Police College invited the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison Honour Guard Battalion to deliver Chinese-style drill training to the Hong Kong Police Flag Party formed by the Drill and Musketry Unit and Recruit Police Constables. The training included static movements, marching, rifle drill, flag raising, etc. Apart from basic drill movements, intensive training with a focus on the procedures of flag-raising ceremony was given to the Hong Kong Police Flag Party.

In addition to acquiring the skills of Chinese-style drill, the trainees also enhanced their perseverance, determination and concentration through the training, thereby boosting their professional abilities as a police officer and projecting a positive image of the Force.
