16th anniversary of Carelinks Cadre
The Carelinks Cadre held its “Being with you for 16 years cum Annual Forum” at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on July 31. Over 60 Carelinkers gathered to share their experiences in providing peer support services during Operation TIDERIDER and the pandemic. They also discussed the challenges in dealing with damaged relationships in post-TIDERIDER period and the future development of the Cadre.
Point-to-Point Peer Support
Apart from supporting the “Decoding Social Unrest for Tideriders” workshops organised by the Psychological Services Group (PSG), the Cadre received a number of peer support requests in the past year. Thanks to the trusted referrals by colleagues in different formations, officers in need were able to obtain peer support services and professional referrals as appropriate. Over the years, Carelinkers have received professional training and accumulated rich experience. Adhering to the principle of confidentiality, the “Point-to-Point Peer Support” service provided by Carelinkers has gradually gained the trust and support of Force members.
The “Magic Canvas”
During the forum, Clinical Psychologists of PSG were invited to teach Carelinkers to express their thoughts and emotions in dealing with damaged relationships in the post-TIDERIDER period by creating art on the “Magic Canvas”. Through sharing and mutual encouragement among the Carelinkers, their emotional burdens were relieved and calmness was restored.
Appointment of Carelinkers
The Cadre also invited Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chan Man-tak to present appointment letters to the Carelinkers at the forum. He expressed his gratitude to all Carelinkers for their services over past year, including the Carelinks Hotline, peer support services, psychological support for Operation TIDERIDER and crisis incidents and training workshops on psychological well-being, etc.
Recruitment of 5th generation of Carelinkers
Since its establishment in 2005, the Cadre has trained up over 100 officers in providing professional peer support. For sustainable development, the Cadre is recruiting the fifth generation of Carelinkers. Officers can also encourage suitable colleagues to join the Cadre. To learn more about the Cadre and the recruitment procedures, colleagues are welcome to attend the recruitment seminars to be held at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on September 10 and 17.
