The STEM-Up HK Innovation and Technology Competition was organised by the Junior Police Call (JPC) with the support of the Education Bureau, the Innovation and Technology Bureau, the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, the Hong Kong Productivity Council, the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association and the Hong Kong Extra-curricular Activities Masters’ Association. The presentation ceremony for the first STEM-Up HK Innovation and Technology Competition was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on October 16. A total of 78 awards were presented to 133 awardees at the ceremony.


This year JPC launched a new strategy “IDEAS@JPC”, which classifies JPC’s activities into five categories, namely Innovation, Discipline, Exposure, Adventure and Synergy. The STEM-Up HK Innovation and Technology Competition is one of the activities under “Innovation”.


Elements of innovation and technology


As a flagship activity under “Innovation”, the ceremony incorporated innovation and technology elements, including the use of robots to lead the officiating guests to the venue, drone performance, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) games and real-time car racing game using 5G technology.


Instagram live broadcast


After the ceremony, the champion of the Junior Primary School Category (Creative Design Drawing) Tang Wing-yan and members of the champion team of the Senior Primary School Category Ma Hong-chung, Yeung Hon-nam and Lee Hong-wang were interviewed via live broadcast on Instagram. Tang Wing-yan expressed that she learnt more about STEM and smart city through the competition, and now she likes to join STEM-related activities even more. Ma Hong-chung, Yeung Hon-nam and Lee Hong-wang said that their friendship was deepened in the creation process.


Exhibition of winning entries


Selected winning entries are displayed to the public between October 17 and 29 at the Covered Piazza, Times Square, Causeway Bay. Selfie spots with the theme of the JPC mascot “Mini Bean” are also available at the exhibition venue for visitors to take photographs. In addition, visitors can take part in a mini game on the spot to learn about the new JPC strategy “IDEAS@JPC” and receive souvenirs.
