Child Abuse Investigation Unit of New Territories North (CAIU NTN) won the Spirit of Hong Kong Awards 2021 – Lion Rock People’s Choice Award for its outstanding contribution to child protection work. Regional Commander of NTN Tsang Ching-fo, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Crime NTN Chan Tin-chu and CAIU NTN officers, attended the award presentation ceremony on October 27.

Since 2013, the South China Morning Post and Sino Group have co-organised the Spirit of Hong Kong Awards annually to honour the selfless contributions and achievements of truly remarkable people in Hong Kong whose endeavours might otherwise have gone unnoticed. This year, the organiser presented eight awards, among which the Lion Rock People’s Choice Award was voted by members of the public online. The award is especially meaningful as it reflects the high public recognition of police work regarding child protection.

Detective Sergeant Wong Ka-lun stated that apart from arrest and prosecution, ensuring the welfare and safety of children is also the Force’s top priority in handling child abuse cases. As most of the CAIU NTN officers are parents, they would feel very upset whenever they come across cases with victimised children. Children should grow up in a healthy and happy environment, CAIU NTN officers will remain steadfast in safeguarding the safety and welfare of children.
