A delegation of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Mainland Olympians visited Hong Kong between December 3 and 5. Five representatives of the delegation met with staff members of disciplined services at the Fire and Ambulance Services Academy on December 4.

Secretary for Security Mr Tang Ping-keung, Director-General of the Police Liaison Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (LOCPG) Mr Chen Feng, Commissioner Siu Chak-yee and the heads of other five disciplined services departments, staff members from various disciplined services, youth uniformed groups of the disciplined services and their respective management committees participated in the event.

The five representatives included Li Fabin (men’s weightlifting), Chen Lijun (men’s weightlifting), Gong Lijiao (women’s shot put), Liu Shiying (women’s javelin) and Su Bingtian (men’s 100 metres sprint). In addition to showcasing their talents, the five athletes also shared their success stories with participants. Junior Police Call (JPC) members and elite athletes of the Force watched the professional demonstrations of the athletes and received training guidance from the athletes.

The event also included a vehicle-pulling challenge, during which officers from respective disciplined services pulled a vehicle of their department to raise funds for the Special Olympics Hong Kong. The Men’s 100 metres sprinter Su Bingtian, together with the representatives of the Special Olympics Hong Kong and the Force, pulled a Unimog armoured personnel carrier and raised over HK$250,000.

On December 5, four other representatives of the delegation met with JPC members at the Hong Kong Police College. Tang Muhan (women’s swimming), Xie Siyi (men’s diving), Hou Zhihui (women’s weightlifting) and Shi Zhiyong (men’s weightlifting) shared with JPC members their joy and pain of being an athlete, as well as their personal lives. After the sharing session, the Police Public Relations Branch organised a “Clinch the Gold” race for JPC members to participate in group challenges.

During the race, a 15-year-old JPC member challenged the Commissioner in an arm wrestling match. The Commissioner praised the JPC member for his courage in taking up challenges and encouraged all JPC members to learn from the athletes’ perseverance to live up to the JPC’s motto “Be a leader, fight crime together”.
