On the evening of December 24, 2021, officers of Platoon 1 of the Police Tactical Unit of Kowloon West (PLN 1 PTU KW) performed crowd management duty in the vicinity of the Star Ferry Pier in Tsim Sha Tsui. At around 9pm, a citizen reported to officers that her 80-year-old father, who suffers from severe diabetes and dementia, went missing while they were in the Ocean Centre.

Upon receiving the report, Sergeant Chan Kwok-ho, Police Constables Yu Wai-chun, Kong Ka-chun and Ko Tsz-ki of PLN 1 PTU KW, not only made every effort to comfort the citizen, but also obtained the description of the missing person’s physical characteristics so as to alert other team members for conducting the search. About half an hour later, the officers spotted an old man who matched the description of the missing person at the Star Ferry Pier and approached him immediately. After confirming his identity as the missing person, the officers comforted him and informed the informant to pick up her father. The officers were delighted to see the informant reunite with her father.

The citizen later wrote an appreciation letter to the Force, praising the officers of PLN 1 PTU KW for their professionalism in locating her father swiftly.
