The Hong Kong Police Football Referees’ Club (HKPFRC) and the Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA) collaborated for the first time in organising the Football Referees’ Training Course for 32 regular and auxiliary officers and their family members at the Police Sports and Recreation Club between September 22 and October 23, 2021.

The five-day course covered knowledge of referees’ rules and guidelines, Laws of the Game of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), etc. Trainees were required to complete both the written test and practical exam at the end of the course. The course was recognised by FIFA for its professional standard.

HKPFRC invited experienced referees including Mr Fong Yau-fat, Mr Liu Kwok-man and Mr Tam Ping-wun as the core tutors to enhance trainees’ understanding of the roles and duties of a referee or an assistant referee, the skills and procedures for enforcing the rules in a match, the application of new technology in referees’ duties and the requirements on kits and equipment, etc.

On October 23, the Chairman of HKPFRC Cheung Kin-pan and Head of Refereeing of HKFA Mr Cheung Yim-yau attended the graduation ceremony to present certificates to the trainees. The Chairman of HKPFRC praised the trainees and encouraged them to continue to uphold the professionalism of referees and promote a healthy lifestyle within the Force.
