Chief Superintendent of the Financial Intelligence and Investigation Bureau (FIIB) Lam Man-han signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Head of the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) of the Republic of Turkey, Dr Hayrettin Kurt, at a virtual ceremony on December 20, 2021, to enhance cooperation between the Joint Financial Intelligence Unit (JFIU) and MASAK in Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Financing of Terrorism (CFT).

Covering a range of matters including the cooperation objectives, procedures on making requests for intelligence and the principles on the use of intelligence, the MoU establishes a framework for closer collaboration between the two financial intelligence units (FIUs) and enhances their overall effectiveness in financial intelligence exchange and collaboration.

Ms Lam said, “Having regard to the digital era and globalisation, we understand our success requires the unfailing support from our FIU counterparts. This MoU between the JFIU and the Financial Crimes Investigation Board of the Republic of Turkey not only represents both parties’ hard work and commitments on AML/CFT, but also signifies our beliefs on the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two FIUs. JFIU will continue to strive for excellence in fighting money laundering and terrorist financing.”

Dr Kurt agreed with Ms Lam’s views and recognised the long-standing cooperation between the two FIUs.

JFIU will continue to explore new cooperation opportunities and strengthen the existing liaison with its FIU counterparts.
