To better coordinate resources to tackle the upsurge in technology crime, Crime Wing and New Territories South (NTS) Region have jointly launched a pilot project namely “Crimes of Hi-tech Elements Revamp and Enhancement” (COHERE) in January, to establish a Regional Technology Crime Unit and three District Technology Crime Squads in Kwai Tsing District, Shatin District and Tsuen Wan District to specialise in technology crime investigation.

The project aims to enhance the investigation capability at Regional and District levels as well as to support other frontline crime investigation units by alleviating the caseloads of technology crime. Under the one-year pilot project, the newly established units are equipped with advanced technology equipment. In addition, four officers from the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) have been deployed to the newly established Regional Technology Crime Unit and District Technology Crime Squads for one year, while four officers from NTS Region have been attached to CSTCB to exchange technological knowledge, experience and skills of technology crime investigation. Subject to a review on its effectiveness, the project will be extended to other land Regions in future.
