Pets not only bring us happiness but also become our good companions in the depressing time during the epidemic. The Regional Crime Prevention Office of the New Territories South Region (NTS) organised a photo contest “Fight the Epidemic in Solidarity with Pets – Photo Sharing Competition” under the “Animal Watchers Programme” (AWP) from February to March. Appeals were made to pet owners for sharing online the sweet moments with their lovely pets at home as a way of conveying positive energy during the epidemic as well as promoting the message of “Protect Animals • Respect Lives”.

The contest attracted an overwhelming response from the public. The three winning entries were voted through online polling. Another five entries were awarded special prizes by AWP captains and watchers.

To enlist public support and participation in fighting against cruelty to animals, AWP was officially launched in February 2021, with captains and watchers being recruited from the community. By pooling together the effort of animal lovers, messages on animal protection can be better promoted through different activities.
