In light of the rise in the numbers of young drug abusers and drug offence cases, Kwun Tong District (KTDIST), in collaboration with Kwun Tong District School Development Section of Education Bureau, Kwun Tong Schools Liaison Committee and Federation of Parent Teacher Associations in Kwun Tong District held an anti-drug workshop in a secondary school on June 16. The workshop aiming at early identification of youths suspected of drug abuse or drug trafficking attracted a total of 160 participants, including principals, teachers, parents, social workers and students from 26 primary and secondary schools. Officiating guests included Regional Commander of Kowloon East Dr Law Yuet-wing, District Commander of KTDIST Chin Tsang-lo, Chief School Development Officer (Kwun Tong) of Education Bureau Mr Sit Siu-chi, Chairperson of Kwun Tong Schools Liaison Committee Mr Wong Chi-keung and Chairperson of Federation of Parent Teacher Associations in Kwun Tong District Ms But Yee, Chairman of District Fight Crime Committee (Kwun Tong) (DFCC) Mr Lo Yan-lai and DFCC members.


Officers of Crime KTDIST were invited to brief on the trend of youth drug offences in the District and criminal liability. Officers of Narcotics Bureau presented youth drug cases and introduced Leadership Institute on Narcotics. Ex-abusers from Operation Dawn shared their experiences. Staff from Department of Psychiatry in United Christian Hospital talked about the harmful effects of drugs on physical and mental health. The officers set up promotion booths to show dummy drugs and share information on crime prevention, Junior Police Call and police recruitment.
