The Scholarship Presentation Ceremony of the Police Children’s Education Trust and the Police Education and Welfare Trust for the 2021/22 school year took place at the Police Officers’ Club on August 16. Officiating at the ceremony were Commissioner Siu Chak-yee, Chairperson of the Joint Management Committee of the trusts Dr Li Sau-hung, and Chairperson of the Joint Investment Advisory Board of the trusts Ms Tsang Wai-sze. The two chairpersons also presented certificates to awardees and parents.


The trusts have provided scholarships, bursaries and grants for police children for over five decades, with the aim of motivating them to study hard and contribute to society. For the 2021/22 school year, the trusts disbursed over $12 million in subsidies to the awardees.


Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner quoted the part about the young people in the important speech delivered by President Xi Jinping on July 1 and pointed out that the Government has commenced preparatory work for the formulation of the “youth development blueprint” which will outline the vision and major directions of Hong Kong’s overall youth development work. Citing his motto “Heaven rewards the diligent”, the Commissioner encouraged the awardees to keep equipping themselves diligently with a broad mind and vision so that they could make contributions to our community by giving full play to their strengths in different domains. He also thanked Dr Li, Ms Tsang and members of the trusts for their significant contribution and professional advice on investment and management of the trusts.


Also addressing the ceremony, Dr Li congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to grasp every opportunity by setting personal goals for developing their potential and contributing to society.


Two awardees of the Scholarship for Outstanding Talents shared their experiences in learning volleyball and rugby respectively and their involvements in international competitions. On behalf of all awardees, a student representative thanked the trusts for giving recognition and financial support to the awardees. He also thanked his parents for their supporting him during his growth and shared with the attendees his fruitful university life and the importance of passion in learning.
