The Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) and Police Mentorship Programme Alumni (PMPA) co-organised “Tour to Kwai Tsing” at the Kwai Chung Police Station on September 2 for 48 mentees and alumni from local universities.

PMP mentor cum District Commander of Kwai Tsing District Tam Nga-ching and PMPA Chairman Chow Shu-fan tailor-made a series of activities for the participants to experience the challenging police work. Officers from Emergency Unit of New Territories South were invited to introduce the mobile command unit and anti-riot equipment and give a drone demonstration. Some participants were given a chance to do running laps in full kit of anti-riot equipment to experience the physical requirements of frontline policing work.

A number of speakers were invited to share their policing knowledge and personal experiences to inspire participants joining the Force. In her capacity as former head of the Recruitment Division, Chief Superintendent Tam Nga-ching briefed on the requirements for joining the Force and shared her career in the Force. She reminded the participants not to forget their aspiration. Frontline commanders from Patrol Sub-unit and the District Investigation Team talked about their experiences in joining the Force and authentic deployment. In addition, Chief Inspector Chu Wai-yin from the Probationary Inspector Training Unit of Hong Kong Police College highlighted the essence of the inspector training course and the preparation required. Former Deputy Head of Force Media Liaison Cadre Ko Chun-pong shared his personal experience in Operation TIDERIDER to inspire the youth facing challenges with a positive attitude.

Communication between the participants and the officers deepened their mutual understanding and the former’s knowledge about policing work. The tour successfully shortened the distance between young people and officers and boosted their mutual trust.
