On October 17, a dementia patient in his 70s was reported missing after leaving his residence in Ma On Shan alone with neither a mobile phone nor any identification document. His family members tried to find him nearby but in vain. As the weather worsened after tropical typhoon signal three was hoisted, they worried about him and made a report to the Police.

The Police Station of Ma On Shan Division (MOSDIV) received the report and classified it as “Missing Person at Risk”. Commander of Patrol Sub-unit (PSU) 4 Inspector Wong Si-chun proactively enquired with the missing person’s family members to obtain more information for analysis. He then quickly requested Sha Tin District (STDIST), PTU NTS and EU NTS to join the search.

Officers of MOSDIV reviewed the CCTV records at the missing person’s residence for analysis and found it quite likely that he was at the Shing Mun Riverside area. This information was disseminated to officers of STDIST and EU NTS for more intensive search in the area during the small hours. Eventually, he was located by EU NTS officers outside Shatin Rowing Centre.

A family member of the missing person wrote a letter to praise the Force for its efficiency and professionalism in serving the public as the officers succeeded in locating the missing person within five hours. Officers of MOSDIV will keep maintaining the Force’s spirit in serving the public with loyalty by handling each case professionally to accomplish the Force’s mission in helping citizens in need.
