Tai Po District

A retiree in his 70s went to Tai Po Police Station on August 16 to report a case. He said that he mistrusted an insurance agent he had acquainted for many years and passed more than $2 million to him for investment. The money was all the savings of his entire life. Six months later, however, the agent suddenly informed him that all the money was gone but refused to produce any transaction records as proof. The old man was in desperate anxiety.

Officers of District Crime Squad 3 Tai Po District (DCS 3 TPDIST) took over the case for investigation. They learned that the old man was a singleton without any relatives in Hong Kong. Therefore, he felt even more helpless when faced with the case. The officers listened carefully to his needs and comforted him, showing fully the spirit of serving citizens with empathy and commitment. They kept close contact with him to explain the procedures and update the progress. The senior citizen wrote a thank-you letter subsequently to praise the officers for their professionalism.

Officers of the Force have to deal with cases of different nature every day. It is believed that the officers will secure more public confidence and support for the Force as long as they make more proactive efforts with empathy.
