Given the rising number of deception cases in recent years, the Force has been co-operating with stakeholders in the banking sector to prevent deception. Officers of the Regional Crime Prevention Office New Territories South (RCPO NTS) and Police Community Relations Offices of the Districts presented letters of appreciation to bank practitioners of Bank of East Asia (Metroplaza Branch and Sha Tsui Road Branch) and Bank of China (Tai Wai branch) on October 27, October 28 and November 9 respectively in recognition of their success in identifying the senior citizens who were telephone scam victims. These bank practitioners contacted RCPO officers immediately and thus successfully intercepted five telephone deception cases amounting to over $220,000, thereby safeguarding the citizens’ savings. The officers shared with bank staff the latest modus operandi and experience of telephone scams, and also distributed to bank practitioners RCPO NTS’s anti-deception bulletin Scam Brief • End Scam to enhance public vigilance against scams.

RCPO NTS will continue keeping close liaison and exchanging information with the banking sector to combat various kinds of scams together, with a view to protecting the safety and property of the public.
