The Graduation Ceremony cum High Table Dinner of Leadership Institute on Narcotics (L.I.O.N.) was successfully held on December 16, 2022, at which 100 mentees of L.I.O.N. were officially conferred the title of anti-drug leaders. To honour their outstanding performance, Commissioner Siu Chak-yee, L.I.O.N.’s Executive Committee members, professional trainers, instructors, principals and teachers of the participating schools attended the graduation ceremony. The Narcotics Bureau (NB) was fortunate enough to have invited the celebrity Mr Andy Lau Tak-wah to be a special guest of the ceremony. The night climaxed with his surprise appearance.

In his speech in the ceremony, the Commissioner said that he was delighted to witness the expeditious growth of the mentees from youths to anti-drug leaders. Having met them in various L.I.O.N. events, the Commissioner was proud of the mentees, who demonstrated their passion and creativity in promoting anti-drug messages to the society. He also expressed gratitude to different sectors of the society, including members of the Executive Committee, professional trainers, instructors, as well as the principals, teachers and students of the participating schools, for their enthusiastic support to L.I.O.N.

Special guest Mr Andy Lau stated that drugs brought devastating consequences to society, and therefore the efforts and innovative ideas of the young people in creating a drug-free culture in schools and every corner of the society were commendable. At the graduation ceremony, the Commissioner and Mr Andy Lau presented gold, silver, bronze, merit awards and scholarships to the outstanding graduates. The ten gold and silver awardees could also join a study tour in Singapore.

In 2022, the first cohort of L.I.O.N. mentees comprising 20 university students and 80 secondary school students took part in a variety of professional training which covered drug knowledge and related legal consequences, event planning, team management, communication skills, presentation and promotion techniques and media relations strategy. These 100 mentees were divided into 20 groups with a mentor assigned to each group from different professions who guided them in designing and executing anti-drug campaign in their schools between September and November. In addition, the mentees assisted NB by joining the anti-drug promotion truck to disseminate anti-drug messages to the public and set up 20 exhibition booths at Love Our Life - LOL Party on November 12 and 13.

The journey of the anti-drug leaders will not end here. They will continue to promote drug-free culture as a graduate of L.I.O.N. Meanwhile, the second cohort of L.I.O.N will commence in January 2023. Apart from the series of local trainings, Mainland study tour will also be arranged for the 100 mentees to open their eyes to our country’s anti-drug strategies and development. More details of the programme have been uploaded to the official webpage of L.I.O.N.
