The Good Citizen Award (GCA) Presentation Ceremony 2022, which was coorganised by Public Relations Wing (PRW) and Fight Crime Committee (FCC) and sponsored by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on February 26, with over 600 attendees. Commissioner Siu Chak-yee, Chairman of the HKGCC Mrs Betty Yuen, FCC member Mr Chan Siu-tong, renowned artiste Dr Liza Wang and international star Mr Donnie Yen officiated at the ceremony. The voice actor of Big Big Good Citizen World Mr Timothy Cheng also attended the ceremony.
As it was the 50th anniversary of GCA, Dr Liza Wang, the officiating guest of the first GCA ceremony, reviewed her experience with the audience in attending the first ceremony. She hoped that the future generations could keep inheriting the tradition to combat crime with the Force. Mr Donnie Yen, another guest of honour, affirmed the contribution of the excellent Force to the prosperity and stability of society. He said that he had acted many roles who bore strong sense of justice, and he could now witness true stories of people who helped others righteously. He praised the awardees as heroes and heroines.
The 80 GCA awardees were commended for assisting the Force in preventing and detecting crimes, or apprehending the culprits and assisting in protecting life. Seven organisations were granted Good Organisation Award for their efforts in promoting crime prevention. This year, Ms Debby Kong was honoured with the Good Citizen of the Year Award for saving the life of a wandering girl. Finding a girl having fallen into the sea, Ms Kong immediately brought her on shore. While waiting for the police to arrive, she kept pacifying the emotion of the girl. Her action fully demonstrated the spirit of caring and helping others. The parents of the girl also expressed their gratitude.
In addition to the presentation of awards to the individuals and organisations, a series of performances were arranged. They included Inheritance of Good Citizen Spirit Drama acted by young children from Hands Up and songs presented by singers from STARS Academy and Midlife, Sing & Shine, giving all participants a pleasant time with the excellent shows.
The first station of Roving GCA Exhibition
The first station of Roving GCA Exhibition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of GCA was successfully held at Yuen Long YOHO MALL between February 27 and March 5. It attracted many citizens. In addition to reading the exhibition panels and taking photos at the nostalgic photo-corner, many parents brought their children to play games at the game stalls to get exquisite souvenirs. The roving exhibition will be on tour in different districts. Please stay tuned for the details.
