Senior Superintendent of Innovation and Solution Lab of Information Systems Wing (ISW) Dr Hui Chun-wai led a group of 25 officers to attend a five-day Huawei 5G Certification Training Course held at the Huawei Global Training Center in Hangzhou between March 5 and 10. In addition to the officers from ISW and Service Quality Wing, there were also 12 awardees from the Force Mobile Application Design Competition. It was the first time that the Hong Kong government sent personnel to the Huawei Global Training Center for learning, highlighting the Force’s determination in embracing technology.

Hui Chun-wai said, “During the training, officers not only learned about the latest 5G solutions and their technological applications, but also visited the laboratory and exchanged ideas with technical experts to understand the latest technology research and development trends, thus improving their grasp of 5G technology. Officers had to pass the exam in order to successfully complete the course.”

Sergeant Tam Yiu-ming, one of the course participants, said, “The emergence of 5G technology has brought us faster data transfer speed, lower latency, and wider connectivity, which helps promote digitalisation and modernisation across various industries. It also plays an important role in areas such as smart cities and digital policing.” Constable Lai Kai-ho, another participant, said, “The development of 5G technology in the mainland is advancing by leaps and bounds. This training has allowed me to learn about different applications of 5G technology and benefited me greatly.”

ISW will keep cultivating the capabilities of officers in using information technology so that they will be well equipped to meet the challenges of technology-related policing work.
