The Safe Community Fun Day was a key event to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit (ICTU). Permanent Secretary for Security Mr Patrick Li, together with directorate representatives from the six disciplined services, officiated at the opening ceremony at the Hong Kong Science Park on April 29 to interact with members of the public and youngsters through various activities.

The Fun Day featured a number of interesting game booths and various interactive technology experiences, including virtual reality/augmented reality games, flight simulation and e-Dodgeball, to enhance the public's awareness of safe community in a light-hearted manner. ICTU also conducted an emergency preparedness demonstration in which students were invited to participate and experience how to apply “Run, Hide, Report” and “Three basic skills on emergency preparedness” in response to terrorist attacks or violent incidents. The Fun Day attracted participation of over 2 500 citizens, including members of uniformed youth groups.

The 5th Anniversary Colouring/Graphic Design Competition organised by ICTU earlier also received an overwhelming response with over 1 000 entries received. Winners were invited to attend the Fun Day and prize presentation ceremony for receiving awards from Mr Patrick Li and Commissioner Siu Chak-yee. Winning designs will have an opportunity to be displayed as advertising panels across the territory.

ICTU will keep enhancing public education and promotion by organising more community activities to strengthen the public's anti-terrorism awareness and contingency to build a “Safe Community” together.
