Kowloon East (KE), Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit (ICTU), Police Negotiation Cadre (PNC) and Education Bureau coorganised a workshop at KE Regional Headquarters on June 27. A total of 173 principals, teachers and social workers from 48 secondary schools and 28 primary schools in KE attended the event.

ICTU briefed on information about national security and community safety, and introduced the approach of “run, hide, report” and the concept of “spot and report” for school staff to keep youngsters safe in the face of violent incidents or terrorist attacks. PNC shared the basic skills for crisis negotiation, strategies in dealing with student suicides on campus and relevant cases explaining how schools and the Force could collaborate. The participants then exchanged their views in group discussion. At last, they were arranged to visit the Report Room of Ngau Tau Kok Police Station. Emergency Unit and Traffic of KE showcased police equipment and weapons to enhance the visitors’ understanding of police work.

Deputy Regional Commander of KE Mark Anstiss stated that the growth of children and young people was vital to Hong Kong’s development. The Force spared no effort in joining hands with the schools and parents to help children grow healthily. He hoped that the workshop could help school staff understand how to deal with crises and raise their awareness so that they would learn how to save themselves and protect the people around them.
