Online fraud targeting banks and their customers has increased drastically in recent years. To enhance the authentication capabilities of the banking industry, Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) organised a workshop on digital fraud at the Police Headquarters on July 5 in partnership with Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB). The workshop attracted 140 banking industry representatives from over 70 financial institutions.

Representatives from CSTCB and HKMA shared real-life cases to introduce the issues being faced by the industry and offered practical countermeasures. CSTCB officers also demonstrated how fraud could be committed by means of “deep fake” technology to change faces. Chief Superintendent of CSTCB Cheng Lai-ki thanked the banking industry for their effort in combatting technology crime. She looked forward to more collaboration with the banking industry, HKMA and HKAB in the future on intelligence exchange and experience sharing.
