The Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Mr Zheng Yanxiong inspected the passing-out parade as Reviewing Officer at the Police College on September 16. A total of 28 probationary inspectors and 127 recruit police constables (RPC) passed out. Among the RPCs, 14 of them formed the first batch of police constables recruited through the Auxiliary Selected Appointment Programme.

In his speech, Mr Zheng said that the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) was an important strength safeguarding “one country, two systems” when Hong Kong faced a series of unprecedented challenges in recent years. Members of the Force united together, lived up to its trust and bravely shouldered the important mission of safeguarding national security and maintaining social stability. The Force’s resolute efforts ensured smooth running of major events, cracked down on activities that might endanger national security, as well as preventing and combatting various illegal and criminal activities. He also noted the Force’s significant contribution to Hong Kong in the new stage of advancing from stability to prosperity following the transition from chaos to order.

Praising HKPF as the best police force in the world, Mr Zheng said that he was fortunate enough to witness first-hand the outstanding performance of the Force over the past few years. It remained fearless and loyal to its duties in the face of riots, epidemics and sanctions. He added that being a member of the Force was a profession of honour that played the role of a guardian protecting the country and citizens. He was proud of their career choice and hoped that the graduates would never forget this honour and would cherish and defend this honour in their careers.
