The Force Working Group on Community Engagement (FWG) held the seventh half-yearly meeting with the chairpersons of the associations of heads of schools and Federations of Parent-teacher Associations (FPTAs) of 18 districts at the Police Officers’ Club (POC) on September 26 and October 20, 2023 respectively. The meetings were chaired by Commissioner Siu Chak-yee and Director of Operations Chan Tung. Each meeting was attended by around 20 chairpersons from each of the two associations, District Commanders and Police Community Relations Officers, as well as officers from Crime Wing and Public Relations Wing.

The Commissioner gave an overview of the crime situation and prevalent youth crimes in the first eight months of 2023. He introduced the major collaborations between the Force and associations of heads of schools, FPTAs, school sponsoring bodies, etc. He pointed out that since the re-opening of the border in early 2022, all districts made strenuous efforts to organise exchange trips to the Mainland, with the aim of enhancing the youth’s knowledge of the situation of the country. About 1 400 youngsters had participated in the trips. The Commissioner also expressed gratitude to the principals and parents for their active participation in the discussions and providing valuable feedback to the Force for improving their work.

The participants of the meetings complimented the newly established SafeCity.HK website, which facilitated teachers to impart updated crime-prevention knowledge to students. The participants also commended the Force’s publicity effort in promoting anti-deception messages. After the meetings, the principals and teachers went on a guided tour of POC to learn about the work and welfare matters of police officers.

Since its establishment in early 2020, FWG has been endeavouring to build rapport with young people and strengthen public trust in the Force. The FWG also works hand in hand with youth workers proactively to promote law-abiding awareness.
