On January 18 morning, Patrol Sub-unit 1 of Sheung Shui Division (PSU 1 SSDIV) received a report from a female, saying that her 74-year-old husband had sent her a message about his suicide attempt before he went missing. At the same time, Platoon 4 of Emergency Unit of New Territories South (PLN 4 EU NTS) received a report that a male was standing dangerously on Tsing Tsuen Bridge, suspected to be a suicide attempt.

Sergeant Poon Tung and Police Constable of PSU 1 SSDIV Wong Man-lai arrived at the scene promptly after receiving the report. They calmed the informant’s emotion and searched for clues. They learned that the mobile phone of her husband had a positioning function and displayed his location at Tsing Tsuen Bridge. The officers immediately contacted Sergeant Leung Man-tat, Police Constables Tsui Man-hei, Cheng Tun-shing, Leung Tsz-kin, Iu Wing-hong and Chow Siu-fai of PLN 4 EU NTS, who were already attending to the suicide attempt case at Tsing Tsuen Bridge. They succeeded in confirming that the identity of the man attempting suicide was the informant’s husband. Under the command of Senior Inspector Cheng Chun-kit and Station Sergeant Chan Kwok-chung of PLN 4 EU NTS, officers communicated with the man patiently and convinced him to give up the suicide attempt.

The informant wrote a compliment letter afterwards to praise the officers for their caring, prompt operation and decisive professionalism in handling the incident, which she admired very much.

With the concerted effort of SSDIV and EU NTS officers, a suicidal man is saved.
