The National Security Education Day cum Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) 180th Anniversary - Police College (the College) Open Day was held at the College on April 13 to enhance public awareness of national security and strengthen the development of national identity for the public to understand the importance of safeguarding national security, as well as further enhancing communication between the Force and the public.


Upon invitation, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR Mr Zheng Yanxiong, Chief Executive Mr John Lee and Commissioner Siu Chak-yee delivered speeches at the session and officiated at the opening ceremony with other honourable guests. In his speech, the Commissioner mentioned the holistic approach to national security. Describing 180th anniversary as an important milestone of the Force, he believed that the Force would continue to shoulder its responsibility of safeguarding national security.


The open day began with a grand show of music performances, driving demonstrations, police dog show and counter-terrorism drills by Special Duties Unit, Counter Terrorism Response Unit with the use of first-person-view drone, followed by HKPF 180th Anniversary Time Capsule Placement Ceremony, during which senior management of the Force placed and sealed memorable items inside the capsule to be reopened 20 years later to witness the historical changes with the public.


The open day featured four major themes, namely Upholding National Security and Safeguarding Our City, Beyond 180 Years, Police Fun Zone and Modern Police Professional. There were exhibitions on national security and history of the Force, displays of equipment of elite units and police vehicles, game booths of respective Formations for the public to have a better understanding of the Force.

Director of LOCPG Mr Zheng Yanxiong said in his speech that since the return of Hong Kong to the motherland, especially in recent years, the HKPF has been “Serving Hong Kong with Honour, Duty and Loyalty” to ensure the steadfastly and successfully implementing of “one country, two systems” and maintain Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability with arduous efforts. It has done its best to honour its duty in every position while fighting crime, safeguarding the rule of law, serving the public and maintaining order. The HKPF has lived up to its demanding trust and shares the fame with the security of the HKSAR and the fate with the well-being of citizens. It is a police force with excellent professionalism, special expertise and civilized image in the world, worthy of the reputation of being the defender of Hong Kong, meritorious official of the country and hero of the people.
