The Chief Executive Mr John Lee announced on April 2 that in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Basic Law, the Central People’s Government, upon his nomination and recommendation, approved the appointment of Chow Yat-ming as Commissioner of Police. Siu Chak-yee would proceed on his pre-retirement leave on April 2 after serving the Force for 36 years.
Commissioner Chow Yat-ming expressed his great honour in assuming the position of Commissioner of Police during a media briefing at the Police Headquarters. He extended his gratitude to the Chief Executive for the nomination and the State Council for the appointment. The Commissioner also thanked his predecessor, Siu Chak-yee, for leading the Force through numerous challenges in recent years. Depicting the overall situation of Hong Kong’s law and order, which had remained stable over the past few years, the Commissioner pointed out that it was a hard-earned achievement attributed to the dedication of all members of the Force, including regular, civilian, and auxiliary officers, who contributed their efforts silently.
The Commissioner said, “In the years to come, I would uphold the professionalism established by my predecessors and I will build upon the successes in enhancing the capabilities, and also ensure the security and safety of Hong Kong.”
The Commissioner highlights the three key areas of future efforts. The first is to safeguard national security and enhance public awareness of it. The second is to promote smart policing by leveraging technology to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness, thereby providing higher quality services. The third is to strengthen team culture, aiming to deepen shared values and sense of belonging among officers so that more targeted support and development opportunities can be provided.
