Hong Kong Island (HKI) held a seminar for Indonesian domestic helpers (IDH) on April 13 to promote national security and enhance the awareness of anti-deception and anti-money laundering (AML) among them. The event attracted the attendance of more than 300 IDHs. The invited guests included Acting Deputy Regional Commander of HKI Cheung Lap-ho, representative of Consulate General of Indonesia in HKSAR Mr Baskara Pradipta, Executive Director (Enforcement and AML) of Hong Kong Monetary Authority Mr Chan King-wang, Captain of Wan Chai District Services and Community Care Team (Canal Road Sub-District) Mr Suen Yat-hau and its member Mr Ma Fung-wai, and the representative of Asosiasi Perusahaan Penempatan Tenaga Kerja Terampil Indonesia (Hong Kong and Macao) Limited Mr Pak Herman.

Cheung Lap-ho stated in his speech that a number of Indonesians in Hong Kong had fallen prey to scams in 2024 and over 100 Indonesians had been arrested for deception and money laundering offences. He emphasised that prevention and law enforcement were equally important, and that the Force would take the initiative to spread messages against crime and scams through proactive collaboration with different sectors in society. After the seminar, officers of the Regional Crime Prevention Office of HKI and Financial Intelligence and Investigation Bureau distributed anti-crime leaflets printed in Indonesian at places in Causeway Bay where IDH often gathered.
