With a view to promoting pet inclusivity in the community, Traffic Hong Kong Island (HKI) held the “Woof” Safety Carnival at Pak Fuk Road Safety Town with the theme of pet road safety for the first time on May 17. More than 2 500 people and over 100 pet dogs participated in the event. The then Regional Commander of HKI Kwok Ka-chuen indicated in the opening remarks that the carnival was the first to combine the two major elements - road safety and pet inclusivity in one go. Dog owners and their pets can experience the importance of road safely through the use of mini-road facilities in the venue.

The Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association held the session “Children Blindfolding Experience: Make Friends with Guide Dogs” on the day, enabling children to be led by guide dogs to go up the footbridge and down the tunnel safely, thereby cultivating the participants’ awareness of animal protection. Officers from the Animal Watchers Programme of HKI Regional Prevention Office promoted messages of caring for animals and preventing cruelty to animals to the public. The host also gave out an animal-exclusive souvenir for the first time: a reflective dog harness, enhancing the safety of pet dogs at night.
