Organised by New Territories South (NTS), co-organised by Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit (ICTU) and Hong Kong Dodgeball Association, and supported by all Support Service Centre for Ethnic Minorities across the city and Home Affairs Department, the event of Project Growth “Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) Youth • Counter-terrorism Dodgeball Experience” successfully concluded on May 18, attracting over 110 teenagers of different ethnic groups for participation.

Regional Crime Prevention Office of NTS integrated sports competition with counter-terrorism (CT) and anti-crime education for the first time this year. Two training days were held on May 3 and 10. Hong Kong Dodgeball Association and Hong Kong Team members were invited to teach the “six-ball dodgeball” techniques. The programme also covered CT and national security education, physical fitness and team training as well as anti-drug education.

On May 18, the participants competed in groups for the Project Growth Cup and the CT Elite Cup. Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Ms Alice Mak officiated at the event, cheered for the participants and encouraged them to join the community activities. The venue also featured several interactive crime prevention game booths, attracting over 300 participating students, parents and guests. ICTU arranged a CT interactive drama to promote the emergency guidelines of “Run, Hide, Report” and the three basic skills on emergency preparedness to ethnic minority teenagers.

During his address, Regional Commander of New Territories South Mak Chin-ho indicated that young people from ethnic minorities encountered various challenges in their growth. He encouraged the teenagers to learn to respond flexibly by making reference to the dodgeball experience when facing challenges, and always remember the support from teammates, parents, teachers, and the wider community.
