Chief Superintendent (CSP) Lam Cheuk-ho and Superintendent Chu Ming-lun of Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) attended the Annual Conference of INTERPOL’s Cybercrime Expert Group (CyberEX) held at the INTERPOL’s headquarters in Lyon, France between June 4 and 5. During the conference, Lam Cheuk-ho was supported by vast majority of members and elected as the Chairperson of CyberEX. He was officially appointed to the role on June 26.
The appointment marks a significant milestone for the Hong Kong Police Force in international cooperation. In the coming two-year term of office, Lam Cheuk-ho will work alongside four Vice-chairpersons from Morocco, Canada, Switzerland and Brazil in the fight against cybercrime globally, focusing on four strategic pillars: strategy, investigation, prevention and empowerment. After being elected, Lam Cheuk-ho elaborated his vision on safeguarding cybersecurity through the next generation cyber policing, stressing the importance of innovation and capacity building among law enforcement agencies (LEAs) over the world. He appealed to strengthen international cooperation and public-private partnerships to address the challenges together which were brought about by the abuse of advanced technologies.
CyberEX was relaunched this year as a platform for international LEAs, academic institutions and industry experts to collaborate in combatting cybercrime. Bringing together over 170 experts from 73 countries and regions, the platform promotes the exchange of experience to support the development of global cybercrime strategies. During the conference, experts from LEAs and the private sector exchanged insights into emerging trends of technology crime. The Hong Kong delegation also participated in multilateral discussions with international counterparts, further promoting international cooperation.
