On May 15, Eastern District (EDIST) launched “Project SAFE” to mobilise various stakeholders in the District to assist shops in installing CCTV. The Force helps shop owners identify suitable installation locations, while Hong Kong Eastern District Association fully funds the installation costs. So far, nine ground-floor shops and stalls on Chun Yeung Street in North Point have completed CCTV installations, covering areas not monitored by government CCTV.

During the launching ceremony, District Commander of EDIST Chan Tin-chu presented certificates of appreciation to community representatives and shop owners and reviewed the operational status of the CCTV systems together. Members of Eastern District Council who helped promoting the project agreed that CCTV was effective in deterring and solving crimes. They hoped that continued police-community collaboration and the application of technology will help build a safer community.
