To strengthen crackdowns on burglaries, Shatin District (STDIST) launched “Project C-Smart” in the first quarter of this year in partnership with several community stakeholders including Sha Tin District Office, District Fight Crime Committee (Sha Tin District) (DFCC STDIST), Sha Tin District Community Fund, Sha Tin Rural Committee and district leaders for installing CCTV systems across all rural villages in the District.
Rural villages account for approximately 30% area of STDIST, and nearly half of the burglary cases occur inside these villages. The project is funded by members of DFCC STDIST and Sha Tin District Community Fund, and jointly promoted by Sha Tin Rural Committee and STDIST. As at June, the installations in 53 out of 55 villages in STDIST have been completed, and negotiation is underway for the other two villages.
The smooth implementation of the project reflects the active support of all stakeholders and their trust in the Force, fully demonstrating the consensus on security issues between the community and the Force.
