Wong Tai Sin District, in collaboration with the research team of the School of Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), conducted the Wong Tai Sin Police Smart Traffic project (the project) to address the traffic issue in the vicinity of San Po Kong business area. The Project was officially launched at a ceremony held on August 19 at the Kowloon East (KE) Police Regional Headquarters.
The project utilises advanced technology to integrate and analyse traffic data for formulating the best traffic management manpower deployment solution. It helped optimise the deployment of individual traffic lights in the San Po Kong business area to improve the overall traffic efficiency, which was also supported by the Transport Department.
Following a two-month trial in the San Po Kong business area in June, the project improved the traffic efficiency, reduced pedestrian waiting time at traffic lights, and enhanced human resource deployment efficiency. Wong Tai Sin District will continue to optimise the project, and is looking forward to extending it to other busy areas within the district to further improve the traffic condition.
