Riding on the sports craze of the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China (NG), Hong Kong Island Region (HKI) combined the two elements of road safety and eSports for the first time and held the ‘Move On! HKI “Safety One” eSports Experience’ in the Police Officers’ Club on August 16. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Regional Commander of Hong Kong Island (RC HKI) Au Wing-leung, HKI Road Safety Ambassador Dr Ko Wing-man and other officiating guests. The event featured virtual reality motor racing and Artificial Intelligence interactive games, attracting more than 500 citizens.
RC HKI stressed in his opening remarks that pedestrians were a high-risk group for traffic accidents, and urged the drivers and pedestrians to be attentive, patient and law-abiding no matter they were driving or crossing the road. He also thanked the stakeholders for working closely with the police so that fatal and serious traffic accidents in the region recorded a drop of more than 70 per cent in the first seven months of this year compared with the same period last year.
