The 20th Symposium on Police Studies of the Straits-cum-Hong Kong and Macao was held in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province between September 22 and 26. Hong Kong’s delegation of 21 members was led by the Director of Personnel and Training Choi Chin-pang.

The theme of the symposium is “Crime Prevention and Policing Modernization under Digital-Intelligent Policing”. It attracted 166 law enforcement officers, experts, and scholars from Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao.

The symposium covered key topics including combatting deepfake-related crimes, cross-border police cooperation, and application of AI and drone in policing work. The organiser selected 29 high-quality research papers, which were presented across five specialised sessions. The number of research papers selected from the Hong Kong delegation has increased from three previously to five, and they were presented by several Senior Inspectors. Director of the Police College (College) Chan Yee-lai chaired the second plenary session whilst Deputy Director (2) of the College Choi Tung-tsoi was the commentator in the third plenary session.

The symposium fostered participants’ understanding of the latest development in combatting cross-border crime, jurisdictional cooperation and crime prevention among cross-strait four regions. All the more, it also strengthened their understanding of policing work under this digital and intelligent technology era.
