Tai Po District (TPDIST) organised a Mid-Autumn Scam Prevention Night at the Tai Po Junior Police Call (JPC) Clubhouse on September 26. The event was attended by Honorary Presidents of JPC and Senior Police Call (SPC) of the district, along with over 80 JPC and SPC members. District Commander (DC) of TPDIST Kong Wing-cheung emphasised in his speech that scammers had come up with more new tricks and fraud prevention required the collective effort of all sectors of the society.

TPDIST also held anti-deception seminars on September 30 and October 2 respectively, educating nearly 300 elderly on common scam tactics and preventive measures. Following the seminars, Kong Wing-cheung, along with Honorary Presidents of Tai Po JPC and SPC, as well as other community leaders, distributed anti-deception blessing bags to the elderly and visited elderly singletons to share anti-deception information.

In addition to fraud prevention efforts, TPDIST collaborated with the Financial Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Hong Kong Association of Banks, and representatives from seven local banks to launch a large-scale anti-money laundering publicity campaign in Sheung Shui on October 6. Kong Wing-cheung led the team to visit various local bank branches in Sheung Shui and explained to the citizens and bank staff on the risks of stooge accounts and related crime prevention information. He emphasised the principle of “Don’t Rent, Don’t Lend, Don’t Sell” for bank accounts, reminding citizens to safeguard their personal bank accounts to avoid falling into money laundering traps.
