From March 2 to 5, Chief Superintendent of Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau Lam Cheuk-ho, Superintendent Cheung Hau-yee and Senior Inspector Tsoi Tsz-ho went to Bangkok, Thailand to attend the Asia and South Pacific Cybercrime Operations Coordination Meeting hosted by INTERPOL. They also visited the Central Investigation Bureau and the Anti-Cyber Scam Centre of the Royal Thai Police.

The meeting brought together over 30 representatives of various law enforcement agencies and computer emergency response team coordination centres from 19 countries and regions. Members of the United Nations International Telecommunication Union and multiple cybersecurity enterprises also attended the meeting. Participants engaged in discussions on topics including intelligence sharing and joint operations on cross-border cybercrime.

Lam Cheuk-ho, in his capacity as Vice-chairperson of INTERPOL Asia and South Pacific Working Group on Cybercrime for Heads of Units, delivered an opening speech at the meeting. He remarked that, in the face of the increasingly complex international cybercrime landscape, the Force would continue to leverage its role as a “Super Connector”, joining hands with partners from various countries and regions to combat crime through strengthened intelligence networks and exchanges. The meeting also established priority development areas for four specialised sub-working groups, namely phishing, ransomware, data breach, and promoting the development of professional capabilities.

In addition, the delegation met with the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau of the Royal Thai Police, and visited the Anti-Cyber Scam Centre. Both sides discussed the trends of cybercrime in the Asia-Pacific region and the modes of operation of cross-border scam compounds. They also exchanged views on key law enforcement aspects such as intelligence exchange mechanisms and procedures for tracing and intercepting crime proceeds.

The CSTCB not only played a leadership role at the INTERPOL meeting, but also strengthened collaborative relationships between the Force and INTERPOL as well as its counterparts in the Asia-Pacific region.
