After the training activities of the fourth cohort of the Leadership Institute on Narcotics (L.I.O.N.) had concluded, the outstanding mentees were arranged to go to New Zealand for an eight-day exchange and to participate in a simulated aerial anti-drug mission in February respectively.
The New Zealand Police arranged 11 outstanding mentees to go to Auckland and visited the Royal New Zealand Police College, where they gained insights into issues including local
anti-drug policies, juvenile judicial system, and cross-sectoral collaboration etc. Mentees also introduced Hong Kong’s anti-drug strategies and the concepts of
L.I.O.N. to the other party, facilitating the two parties’ understanding of anti-drug work of both places.
During the exchange, mentees were arranged to experience Māori culture. Mentees also explored New Zealand’s natural landscapes and culture landscape, and learnt about the local conservation culture. They also went to Eden Park to watch a rugby match. The exchange tour broadened the international horizons of the mentees, and enabled their growth through hands-on experience and reflection.
Additionally, L.I.O.N. and the Government Flying Service arranged 20 outstanding mentees and mentors to participate in a simulated aerial drug-enforcement mission. Mentees boarded a helicopter and searched for locations of drug activities from the air based on simulated intelligence to experience the challenge and perspective of the frontline officers while performing aerial duties.
