The Police College (College) organised a “Detective for a Day” experience and a crime case sharing session for 164 Recruit Police Constables (RPCs) between April 1 and 2, aiming to stimulate their detective thinking and unleash their potential through practical learning and interaction.

Director of the College Cheng Lai-ki told the RPCs that crime investigation is demanding and challenging, but it provides an unparalleled sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Crime investigation is not only a professional pursuit, but also a profound journey of personal growth and development. She also encouraged the RPCs to maintain their curiosity and professionalism, hoping that after completing their training, they will steadfastly uphold the rule of law and embody the core values of “Serving Hong Kong with Honour, Duty and Loyalty”.

“Detective for a Day” experience

On the first day, the RPCs participated in the “Escape Room” activity during the “Detective for a Day” experience. In a realistic detective scenario, they took on the role of investigators to pursue clues. Later, under the guidance of College instructors, they experienced facilities at the Detective Training Centre, including the Identification Parade Room and the Video Recorded Interview Suite, gaining an understanding of the operation of the modern detective equipment.

Crime case sharing session

On the following day, a crime case sharing session was held, during which the officers-in-charge and investigators involved in handling a murder case and a kidnap case were invited to analyse these cases in depth. Through interaction with the investigators, the RPCs learned more about evidence collection and analysis, and forensic application. Additionally, a Station Sergeant from the Regional Anti-Triad Unit of New Territories South was invited to share frontline detective experience, providing the RPCs with insights into the daily work and real-world situations faced in crime investigation.
