The Traffic Branch Headquarters (TBHQ) held three thematic briefings in March which were aimed at helping frontline officers and various government departments get an understanding of the latest amendments to traffic legislation and reform of traffic management project, and also promoting the Force’s latest digital initiatives under the “Smart Policing” framework.
On March 16, TBHQ, in collaboration with the representatives from the Transport Department, held a briefing on “taxi drivers must provide e-payment methods” and “Journey Recording Systems for Taxis” for frontline officers of the Force. The relevant legal requirements, enforcement criteria for handling fare disputes, and the development direction of Journey Recording Systems were explained.
On March 20, TBHQ held an inter-departmental briefing for 60 government departments, which explained the development direction of electronic penalty tickets (ePTs), with emphasis on the enforcement procedures for handling illegally parked government vehicles, as well as the future arrangements for issuing ePTs to government vehicles.
Moreover, TBHQ held a briefing on the upgraded Electronic Traffic Accident Report System (eTA) on March 26. The function which supports the recording of “Traffic Accidents with Person Injured” has been added to the optimised “eTA” system. Together with existing features such as speech-to-text and precise Global Positioning System, the efficiency in handling traffic accidents will be substantially increased.
Looking ahead, TBHQ will continue to leverage technology and maintain close collaboration with government departments as well as stakeholders to improve road safety in Hong Kong.
