Full implementation of M-Swift
Following the rollout of the first phase of the M-Swift Mobile Device Digital Evidence Extraction Tool in Kowloon West Region, the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) fully implemented the scheme across all Police Districts in April.
Investigation officers can connect mobile devices to the M‑Swift tool for screen capturing, screen recording and file extraction. This allows immediate preservation of data to prevent the loss of crucial evidence, while streamlining the digital evidence-gathering workflow and significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
M‑Swift features a simple and user‑friendly interface. After completing the e-learning course in the Central Educational Repository, officers can independently use M‑Swift to extract digital evidence. To support the scheme, the CSTCB organised multiple workshops over the past four months, providing training to more than 400 crime investigation officers from various Headquarters, Region and District units, as well as members from the Technology Crime Investigation and Response Cadre. The relevant M‑Swift toolkit has also been distributed to frontline units for operational use.
Digital Forensics Workshop for DH
In response to the Department of Health’s (DH) need for digital evidence-gathering capabilities in enforcement actions against illegal medical practice, the CSTCB conducted a Digital Forensics Workshop for 30 DH officers on April 14.
The workshop covered fundamental concepts of digital evidence-gathering, principles of collecting digital evidence, techniques for handling crime scenes, and hands‑on exercises using forensics tools. The training specifically addressed challenges commonly encountered by DH officers during enforcement operations, focusing on how to make appropriate judgements and take suitable actions when handling digital evidence on-site.
Over the past year, the CSTCB provided professional training across various domains to 66 officers from other Government departments and overseas law enforcement agencies.
