The Regional Crime Prevention Office of New Territories North (NTN), in collaboration with the Education Bureau and the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), co-hosted the “Safeguarding the Future: National Security Classroom” seminar on May 11. The event was officiated by the then Acting Secretary for Education Dr Sze Chun-fai and Deputy Commissioner (National Security) (DCP NS) Kan Kai-yan. Nearly 500 participants, including members of the education sector, university students and national security education district tutors, gathered to explore ways to enhance the effectiveness of national security education.
President of the EdUHK Professor Lee Chi-kin expressed the hope that the seminar would strengthen the content of national security teaching, enabling more educators and the public to further understand the relevant knowledge, thereby improving the effectiveness of teaching and promotion.
In his speech, DCP NS emphasised that national security education relied on educators leading by example, nurturing a correct sense of national identity among young people from an early age, and helping them understand the close relationship between national security and personal development. The seminar provided a platform for the education sector to exchange views and further strengthened public awareness of and support for national security education.
