On May 9, the School of Foundation Training (SFT) of the Police College (College) co-organised a community inclusion activity with the Wai Ji Christian Service Bradbury Centre at Tin King (Centre). With the theme of companionship and exchange, the event aimed to enable trainees to interact with individuals in need of care, embodying the values of care and respect while fostering a deeper understanding of inclusiveness.
Staff and trainees from the SFT first accompanied the Centre’s residents from the hostel on a walk to Tuen Mun Tsing Tin Playground. To promote communication in a relaxed and safe environment, interactive games were arranged by both the Centre and the College. During these games, trainees demonstrated patience, actively paid attention to the needs of the residents, and offered assistance as appropriate. In this warm atmosphere, mutual trust was gradually built. Afterwards, the participants visited the Emergency Unit (EU) New Territories North Tai Hing Operational Base to look at the police vehicles and equipment up close. Officers from the EU introduced their daily work and conducted equipment demonstrations, allowing the residents to experience the diverse aspects of police work firsthand.
This event not only broadened the life experiences of the residents, but also allowed the trainees to cultivate empathy, understand the needs of people from different backgrounds, and enhance their professional sensitivity and humane care. Looking ahead, the College will continue to promote similar community engagement programmes, further deepening trainees’ understanding of the core values of “Serving Hong Kong with Honour, Duty and Loyalty” during their training, and contributing to the building of a harmonious and inclusive society.
