The Operations Wing (OPS Wing) hosted the International Security and Major Events Coordinator (SMECO) Course for the first time from April 13 to 17. By sharing the experience when Hong Kong hosted major events and the 15th National Games, the course aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills needed to plan, manage, and execute effective policing strategies for security and major events.
A total of 22 officers from Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Macao, as well as the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, Immigration Department, Customs and Excise Department, Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Force took part in the course. The content of the course covered the planning and command structures for security and major events, scenario-based exercises, case studies, and site visits, enhancing participants’ skills in coordination, strategic planning, and risk assessment from multiple aspects. The five-day course enhanced participants’ understanding of Hong Kong and the Force, and facilitated the sharing of the latest risk mitigation strategies and collaborative approaches among the law enforcement agencies.
