On May 14, the Traffic Branch Headquarters (TBHQ), in collaboration with the Road Safety Council, MTR Corporation, Road Safety Office of Traffic New Territories North (T NTN), Yuen Long District, Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol and Yuen Long District Council Members, organised the Light Rail (LR) Model Pedestrian Campaign at the pedestrian crossing near Chung Fu LR Station in Tin Shui Wai. The event aimed to disseminate road safety messages to pedestrians, especially the elderly.
During the event, 40 “Model Pedestrians” were selected and presented with souvenirs. Road safety mascots Traffic Bear and Mr Safegg also interacted with the public to promote road safety messages.
Through inter-departmental collaboration and leveraging the district networks of Yuen Long District Council Members and Road Safety Patrol, the event engaged with the community to raise the law-abiding awareness of the pedestrians, with a view to strengthening the partnership between the Force and the public in promoting road safety.
The TBHQ hopes to raise awareness among the elderly about the proper use of pedestrian road-crossing facilities through various activities and to encourage them to "Stay Alert, Stay Alive" as well as “Keep Your Cool on the Road”, thereby reducing traffic accidents.
