To encourage young people to participate in sports and appreciate traditional dragon boat culture, the Kowloon West
Youth-Care Committee (KWYCC) established the Kowloon West Youth-Care Dragon Boat Team. On April 26, 11 trainees attended the Elementary Dragon Boat Training Certificate Course at the Ma Liu Shui Marine Police Base. They passed the theoretical and practical assessments and received recognition from the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association, certifying that they have acquired the basic skills needed to participate in dragon boat activities.
The course covered both the theoretical principles and practical techniques of dragon boat sports. Officers of the Juvenile Protection Section of Kowloon West and the KWYCC President accompanied the trainees throughout the training. Deputy Regional Commander of Kowloon West Tam Nga-ching said that the course not only enabled trainees to master dragon boat skills, but also helped enhance their confidence, responsiveness and team spirit through the training. She pointed out that trainees who had completed the course would serve as “mentors”, guiding new participants and sharing their skills.
Looking ahead, the KWYCC will continue to promote youth development work and recruit more young people interested in dragon boat sports to join the Kowloon West Youth-Care Dragon Boat Team.
