During the “Reviewing Together, Advancing Together: A Dialogue with the 42nd Floor” held in March, Commissioner
Chow Yat-ming emphasised that the Force would support frontline officers through various measures, including the proactive implementation of the Five-Day Week (FDW) work pattern.

In May, the FDW Pilot Project Team (2nd Pilot) Working Group, comprising representatives from the Support Wing, Operations Wing, Personnel Wing, Land Regions, Districts and Junior Police Officers’ Association (JPOA), conducted a holistic review of the Pilot Scheme. The review findings suggested that FDW had no negative impact on the Force’s operational effectiveness, service standards, and human resources management. In view of the above findings, coupled with the favourable factors such as smart policing, effective use of information technology, and streamlined procedures, the Force management has endorsed the full implementation of FDW in all Patrol Sub-units (PSUs) of Land Regions from July 5. It has comprehensively balanced factors including operational effectiveness, staff morale and social expectations. By then, the proportion of Force members working on a FDW pattern will increase to 95.4 per cent by strength.

The first phase of the Pilot Scheme was launched in 2020, covering the PSUs of five Land Districts and those of the Enforcement and Control (E&C) Divisions in two Regional Traffic Districts. Subsequently, in August 2025, the Pilot Scheme was extended to the five other Districts and all PSUs under E&C Divison of Regional Traffic Districts.
