During the Cheung Chau Jiao Festival's "floating colours" parade on May 24, the Police Tactical Unit (PTU) Headquarters conducted a field trial of equipment, such as the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Visual Intelligence-enabled Glasses for Drone Operations (AI Glasses system), retractable crowd management tape, new amplifier and exoskeleton, at multiple locations in Cheung Chau with the assistance of Marine Port District and PTU officers. The trial aimed to enhance the operational capability and flexibility of frontline officers.
Co-developed by the Research and Development Division of PTU Headquarters, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, and young entrepreneurs from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the AI Glasses system integrates AI image analysis with Augmented Reality technology. Upon wearing the smart glasses, the drone pilot can receive live footage along with AI analysis results (e.g. crowd counting function). In this trial, the system counted the number of people in a designated area and transmitted the data instantly to the District Operations Room, significantly enhancing the situational awareness and operational efficiency of officers.
The system was awarded the Bronze Medal in the “Hardware, Software, Cybersecurity, Blockchain & Internet of Things (IoT)” category at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, and the Gold Medal at the 5th Asia Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions held in 2025.
